This website honours an exceptional ,unassuming Australian whose long life was spent serving the community in peacetime and in war.
Arthur Beaumont Shannon was a teacher who answered the call of duty in World War Two.
He served in Australia, the Middle East, mainland Papua New Guinea, and the islands of Bouganville and New Britain.
After the War he returned to what he loved most, teaching.
Some of the events of his life are set out in this website.
Particular prominence is given to Arthur Shannon's service in the Australian Army from 1940 until 1946.
He was among "The Rats of Tobruk".
